Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan

Noel on Guigsy :
"Jah Rastafari. I think he's spoken to me, and this is no word of a lie, since I was 17 -13 years -for a total of about an hour. All he says is "sweet as" and Alright". That's all. Typical bass player, isn't he? I say to him, Bass player, sit down, shut it. Top man though, he's just had a baby boy. Called him Pat McGuigan. I said, That's really bad cos he sounds like a navvy already."

Born: 9 May 1971

Guigsy is the first born child of Gerard and Teresa McGuigan. He shares the same passion as the Gallaghers in football and music, both supporting Manchester City. He had always been an exceptional footballer but after a torn knee ligament accident on the field, Guigsy got started on music. He first met Noel at Erwood Park in Manchester when they were younger. It was also at the same park where he later met Bonehead.

Some truths you never knew about Guigsy:

  • He's not very talkative about music. "Sorry mate," he onced explained. "I only do interviews with football magazines."
  • He temporarily retired from the band when the pressure got too much. "We'd been playing for two years without a break and it just kind of got on top of me. I've been taking Prozac and I'm right back into it now. You forget how brilliant it is to be in Oasis until you stop doing it." That month off, he later revealed, was the most boring of my life. The doctor told me I had to eat lots of vegetables."Trouble is, I hate vegetables."
  • He was temporarily replaced by Scott McLeod of the Wah-Wahs-and you can see him in the video of Wonderwall.
  • Unlike Noel, who has a whole collection of guitars, you'll rarely see Guigsy without his trust Fender Jazz bass.
  • The Gallaghers love him despite his sharing a nickname-Guigsy-with Manchester United's Ryan Giggs.
